Mona Edwards was born in Branson, Missouri in 1933, but her family moved to Indianola, Iowa where her father owned a movie theater. In Iowa, Mona earned her Associate’s Degree in Chemistry.
After she graduated, at the age of 19, she joined her family as they moved down to Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, near Eglin Air Force Base. There, her dad opened a roller-skating rink. This thrilled Mona, as the roller rink was one of the only recreational facilities in the area, so she was never short attention from young men in service. Of course, Mona met her husband roller-skating! They were married in 1955.
While her husband completed his service, Mona worked as a bank teller and later at the local Air Force base. After his service, they moved to Lakeland, Florida. There the two attended Florida Southern College where she earned a degree in Home Economics Education with an emphasis on textiles, design, family, home, sewing and childcare. After graduating, they moved to St. Petersburg, Florida where she taught communication and life skills such as budgeting, cooking, finances and other topics to veterans at the VA until her retirement.
The Edwards had two children together, Glenn and Alisa. When Alisa moved to Bristol, Tennessee with her family, Mona decided to move to be closer to her after a shoulder injury. She moved into to Everlan of Johnson City where she still loves to spend her time baking and sharing her creations with her breakfast friends.
